Ffestiniog is the oldest independent railway company in the world, originally built to transport slate from the quarries in the mountains. The historic train from Blaenau to Porthmadog, climbs 700 ft from sea level into the mountains through the Snowdonia National Park, passing tranquil pastures magnificent forests, lakes and waterfalls. Portmeirion is a private coastal village of pastel coloured homes and restaurants arranged around plazas and gardens with lovely views. Seventy acres of sub-tropical woodland gardens surround the village and you can take a 20 minute little train tour of the woodland, which has a photo stop at the Chinese Lake and Castle.

Completed in 1875, the Victorian Anderton Boat Lift was designed to lift narrow boats between the Weaver River and the Trent & Mersey Canal. This ingenious device operated for over 100 years before being closed due to corrosion, but was restored and re-opened to boat traffic in 2002. We will be combining the Anderton Boat Lift with a forty minute round trip river cruise, followed by a Cream Tea in the glass fronted café with its awe inspiring view.

We have slightly adjusted this lovely day trip by starting the train journey at Corwen, which adds an extra 3 miles of beautiful countryside for you to enjoy. Enjoy an 11 mile journey from Corwen to Llangollen travelling through the beautiful landscape of the Dee Valley on a railway line that stays close to the waters of the river for most of its length. Free time in Llangollen, followed by an awe inspiring narrowboat ride on the Aqueduct ‘stream in the sky’ 126 feet above the valley floor, where you can savour the magnificent scenery as you drift serenely along. Includes commentary and refreshments are available onboard.
